Limited Edition Sam Flores Colab

Icelantic Skis Limited Edition Sam Flores Colab

Colorado based ski maker, Icelantic Skis has teamed up with American visual artist, illustrator and muralist Sam Flores to create a one-of-a-kind, limited availability ski like you’ve never seen before.

Icelantic, a long time fan of Flores, was introduced to Flores while he was in Denver working on the Terminal Kings installation at the Denver International Airport. An immediate connection blossomed into Icelantic’s First Artist Series ski, featuring for the first time, an artist other than Icelantic’s Travis Parr.

“I have been a fan of Sam’s work since the first time I saw one of his pieces. His style and depth fit well with Icelantic’s vibe and are just different enough to add a cool edge. We are honored that Sam was as excited about this project as we were – looking forward to see how it’s received – both in the ski community and the art scene.” – Ben Anderson, Founder of Icelantic skis.

As with all of Icelantic’s skis, the option of buying the Giclee print in addition to the skis, is available and makes for a unique art piece, as well as a new option for displaying the skis when not skiing. The Ski/Giclee package comes with an easy-mount ski hanger making all involved look good.

The Limited Edition Flores ski comes on Icelantic’s Top-Selling Nomad RKR, which is available in 161cm, 171cm and 181cm lengths.  Skis and Giclees will be available on the Icelantic website: http://www.icelanticskis.com.

As with all Icelantic skis, the Flores Limited Edition is made in Denver, Colorado and comes with a 2-Year warranty.
Only 100 pairs were made of this ski so get a pair while you can!

Sam Flores (born 1975) is an American visual artist, illustrator, and muralist, primarily creating urban- and graffiti-inspired modern art.[1] He has worked with various mediums, including acrylics, pen and ink, and sculpture.[1] Much of his early work focused on developing designs for skateboarding and clothing companies.[2] He has displayed in the United States, Canada, Singapore, Japan and throughout Europe.[3]

Launch of Limited Edition John Denver Tribute Ski

Tuesday, November 13th, 2012

Icelantic is proud to team up with the estate of legendary singer songwriter John Denver to launch a limited edition John Denver tribute ski.

John Denver’s iconic music is greatly appreciated by the folks here at Icelantic and so is the shared passion for skiing, art, adventure, creativity and innovation. The opportunity to pay tribute to Denver’s legacy and catalog of music comes with great honor. With the help of the estate we have chosen the Nomad to serve as this signature ski.

Icelantic artist Travis Parr’s process for this ski involved first painting his subject, then adapting the painting to incorporate some of Icleantic’s signature elements, and in this case the “JD snowflake” logo. PARR says, “Art is…the process or product of deliberately and creatively arranging elements in a way that appeals to the senses and emotions.”

Denver was well known during the 1980s for his gatherings of the rich and famous at John Denver’s Celebrity Ski Classic at Heavenly Resort in Lake Tahoe. Extremely popular with spectators and millions of TV viewers across the country, the event served as a huge promotional vehicle for the sport of skiing for ten years, as well as a fundraiser for Denver’s favorite charities.

[The estate has also recently announced that ATO Records will celebrate John Denver’s life and music with The Music Is You: A Tribute to John Denver, slated for early 2013 release. The album features covers of Denver’s most popular songs by artists including Dave Matthews, My Morning Jacket, Train, Amos Lee, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Brandi Carlile, Lucinda Williams, Josh Ritter, Old Crow Medicine Show, Kathleen Edwards (produced by Jim James of MMJ), Brett Dennen, Milow, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Blind Pilot, J Mascis, Sharon Van Etten, Evan Dando and more.

Denver, the two-time Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter and Poet Laureate of Colorado, released 23 studio albums in his lifetime. He is best known for the beloved songs “Leaving, on a Jet Plane,” “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” “Sunshine On My Shoulders, “Annie’s Song” and “Rocky Mountain High,” which is the co-state song of Colorado. Among his numerous awards and recognitions, Denver was instrumental in championing humanitarian and environmental causes.
Today, Denver’s status as a cultural icon stands undiminished. His popularity and continuing influence on popular culture more than a decade after his untimely death in 1997 is remarkable. The new signature skis stand as tribute to the legacy of a national treasure: John Denver.

A Week Of Warren Miller

Wednesday, October 31st, 2012

Warren Miller Entertainment just held the world premier of their new film Flow State last week in Salt Lake City. I had the priveledge of attending this event and touring around Utah all week riding on the wave of fun times as the Warren Miller crew spread stoke all over the land. It was awesome to hang out with our own Kaylin Richardson and Julian Carr and see them kill it in the film. Julian actually went ahead and got the cover/poster shot for the film this year. Check it out!

The movie was awesome and the vibe at the premiers was the best. If you haven’t seen the film yet, definitely check it out. There are killer segments shot in AK, Japan, Utah and many more, even a segment sailing and skiing the Norwegian Arctic. You still have the chance to see it on the big screen. Flow State is currently on tour hitting locations all over the country and the globe. For our Colorado neighbors,  there are screenings coming up in Aspen, Denver, Boulder and Colorado Springs just to name a few. We’ll be at the Denver and Boulder shows and will be bringing Julian Carr with us, so definitely come out and see us. Here’s the link to the trailer to help get you stoked.

Icelantic Skis Are Officially At Evo

Wednesday, October 17th, 2012

Icelantic skis are now at evo and they are coming at you on the next level. For evo Icelantic is much more than a ski company; they are a group of artists, athletes, passionate and creative people. Sure they offer top of the line skis but they also offer something unique by bringing you killer annual artistic themes on their skis that gets the evo crew super excited. We are stoked about this not just because they make rad skis but also because Icelantic is one of the few ski brands that can still claim made in the U.S.A. This is no small declaration, in this day and age as more and more companies are outsourcing overseas Icelantic continues to kill it and still manages to keep it local. A massive part of this is the benefit it provides for the local community but also the ability to make way more awesome products. All materials, design and craftsmanship are all inventions of the people who are focused and ambitious to build the best skis out there.

Where do evo an Icelantic fit together?

The idea of the evo is not just a place to pick up a new set of skis or some outerwear but to be a leader whether it is on the mountain charging a line or in the city helping with our local community. We are a multi-dimensional company full of artistic, fun, and passionate individuals that falls into line with Icelantic’s similar principles.  Providing our customers with the best stuff always comes first for us, offering a product like Icelantic has been a great choice for our store. As the 2012 Overall Shop of the Year and Hardgoods Retailer of the Year from Transworld Business we have already set the bar very high for ourselves and continually strive to uphold our reputation by offering the best products. Next time you are in our neighborhood be sure to drop in at the evo Seattle store and say, “Hello!” We always love to see new faces in the store.
